Business Writing
During this hands-on workshop, participants recognize that business writing is a skill that can be learned and that the following guidelines apply: If you do not know your readers reading level, presume the level of a 12-year old. This seems low…but it ensures the greatest readership possible. You may never see all the people who will read your document and if your reader cannot pick out the relevant facts, they will think you are hiding things or that you are not a clear thinker. During the course of this one day workshop, an effective and respectful approach to one-way communication skills is highlighted, enabling participants to:
- Tailor messages to the intended audience
- Write persuasively, with simplicity, clarity and impact
- Organize thoughts for writing
- Write the way people read
- Use e-mail effectively.
Throughout the workshop, participants practice their skills on a document they have been asked to bring with them. Specifically they compile their document by going through the following five steps:
- Planning
- Research
- Organizing
- Drafting
- Editing
Finally, due to the increasing use of email as a communication tool, participants learn how to handle large volumes of email using techniques that are being constantly updated via feedback from our technically savvy clients.
