Hi ,

Here we are into August which in Latin means "marked by majestic dignity!" One thing I've noticed about people who have dignity is that they smile a lot and feel it is their duty to make people feel comfortable around them...kind of like a gracious host or hostess would be. Having dignity is being worthy, honored or esteemed and yet so often we expect that sense of worthiness to come from other people--that we have to do something huge to be honored or esteemed. The more I live, the more I think it is about honoring ourselves from within. Knowing that we have done a good job and fulfilled our purpose in life. And what does that honoring ourselves and fulfilling our purpose look like? It looks very simple to me. It looks like having the courage and the consciousness to smile first--make eye contact--forgive--keep an open mind--speak kindly of others--all those attributes that make us honor, respect and think well of others.

The people who come to my mind when thinking about dignity are receptionists and front line employees; the people who represent the company where the 'rubber meets the road'. They are the ones who greet people either in person or on the telephone--the first point of contact. I have seen many people perform this job, some good, some bad, some intermediate, and the ones who stand out for me, the most amazing ones, are the people who smile and make eye contact and hold themselves with a sense of dignity and honor. I think it's these small things that make customers feel welcome--the greeting, the 'I can do" attitude.

Can you imagine if we all woke up each day with that mindset? Smiling and making eye contact with the first person we greet--whether a family member or a stranger in the parking lot. Can you imagine if we walked about with majestic dignity--as if our only purpose in life was to be worthy, honored and esteemed? Let's make that our vision and our goal for the rest of August...and not to sound too corny...lets do it with gusto!

Make Yourself a Great Day.
