Hi ,

In my book The Customer Service Training Toolkit published by McGraw-Hill, there are 60 activities for delivering Super Service to customers. Today I want to talk about activity 33: Being Creative. Companies that foster creativity in their employees are not only opening the doorway to new and better ideas; the employees feel better about themselves and their environment. When a company stifles creativity, it is putting the lid on endless opportunities for new growth.

We have huge amounts of creativity; some people are simply more open to using it than others. Creativity is being open to new ideas. Sometimes, we think that creativity in business is different from creativity in the artist’s studio; not so. Creativity is creativity, wherever it occurs. If you get into a slump, it can become visible to everyone around you; be creative in finding your way out.

Sometimes we ignore what worked when we were very young. We may have been great artists, and drawing could be a way to tap into our creative flow. Acknowledge what is not working now. Is there something in the way of your being creative? What is it? Can it be addressed? What can you do differently to expand your mind? What resources do you have? Be creative in thinking of resources.

Here’s a few ideas about…

How to Find Your Way to Creativity:

  • What worked in the past?
  • What is not working now?
  • What can I do differently?
  • What resources do I have?

Have Fun Getting Out of Your Rut

  • Dress differently for a day.
  • Style your hair differently and see how it makes you feel.
  • Find a good joke to tell everyone.
  • Eat different foods outside of your normal choice.
  • Skip the coffee and find a new way to wake up.
  • If you brush your teeth starting on the top left—try brushing from the bottom right.
